Despite claims otherwise, Las Vegas strip casino, Wynn Resorts Ltd, says Hall of Fame basketball player Charles Barkley hasn't settled his $400,000 gambling debt. Barkley vowed he had paid off his debts during a TNT interview before Game 7 of the National Basketball Association semifinal.
Wynn Las Vegas resort and the Clark County district attorney’s office claim otherwise, saying there's been no payment and no contact with the former NBA star and TV analyst. The resort casino sued Barkley, 45, in Nevada state court on May 14 after he failed to repay credit that the casino company had extended to him in October. The amount is comprised of four $100,000 casino loans.
District Attorney David Roger has promised to file a criminal complaint if Barkley doesn't pay up by June 9. The former NBA star maintains the money is not a problem, saying, “Just because I can afford to lose money don't mean I should do it. I'm not going to gamble anymore.''
In a May 2006 interview Barkley admitted he’d lost about $10 million due to his excessive gambling.
