Fire Closes Monte Carlo Casino

Monte Carlo Casino Still Under Repair After Fire

It’s still not clear when the Monte Carlo will re-open after a serious fire on January 25, 2008. Exterior foam-based sculpting on the roof of the 32-story Las Vegas casino set ablaze mid-morning last Friday causing approximately 2,400 guests and employees to be evacuated. Flaming debris rained down on the sidewalk prompting emergency personnel to clear out the area. While shocked, no one was seriously injured. Reports state that out of the thousands evacuated only 5 people were hospitalized, 4 complaining of trouble breathing and 1 with an unspecified minor injury.

Over the weekend hundreds of contract workers were on-site trying to clean up and repair fire damage to the casino. The operator of the Monte Carlo, MGM Mirage Inc., says hundreds more workers are scheduled to arrive during the week of January 28, 2008.

At the moment fire officials are still waiting for the contract workers to remove or secure the burned exterior facade along the roof to prevent more debris from falling down.

Monte Carlo workers who are not involved in the cleanup are being paid in full during the lull but are being asked to call a hotline to determine their work schedule.
