David Anthony Williams

David Williams is bright, charismatic, handsome, and a savvy poker player. His most notable claim to fame is his 2004 WSOP Main Event 2nd place finish when he was just 23 years old. For this runner-up (Greg “Fossilman” Raymer took 1st), David won a cool $3.5 million. He followed up that win with a 2nd place finish in the 2004 WPT Borgata Poker Open worth almost $600,000. Not bad for someone still in college.

Born on June 9, 1980 in Arlington Texas, David is very mature and responsible, which he attributes to growing up in a single parent household. He entered college at the tender age of 16 at North Texas University. He was later accepted to Princeton University with a 1550 SAT score. After a short time there, he grew homesick and moved to Dallas to earn an Economics degree at Southern Methodist University. He has put his final semester on hold and is playing WPT and PPT events full-time.

Before poker, David already had a kind of celebrity status as one of the world’s best players of "Magic: The Gathering". Magic is a one-on-one card game involving strategy and an element of chance – akin to an adult version of Pokemon. He first learned poker from other Magic players and first played in underground card rooms in Dallas. In 1997, David took a hiatus from Magic and pursued high-stakes poker. A frequent online player, David won his seat to the WSOP main event in an online satellite tournament.

David Williams is known in tournament poker as a highly unpredictable and random player. He is still improving his game, but his future looks bright. He has been featured in several magazines including Card Player, All-In, and Playboy as the “Future of Poker”. He also recently competed in the WPT Young Guns of Poker, a special invitational for the hottest young players on the tour. We will be watching him for years to come.
