This year’s highly anticipated L.A. Poker Classic is officially underway as of Thursday, January 24. The number of entrants and spectators testifies to this event’s ever-growing popularity. The L.A. Poker Classic continues to attract some of the most revered professional poker players in the world as well as up-and-coming pros.
The first event - a $300 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament - brought 1,191 participants to the tables. The winner, L.A. resident Kimya Williams, took home almost $78,000 of the $347,000 prize pool.
The next event was a Limit Hold’em tourney that attracted 387 players. Robert Pacleb took home the first-place prize of a little more than $30,000. The total prize pool boasted just under $113,000.
Event #3 was an Omaha Eight-or-Better event. Stan Zdanowich bested a field of 358 players and walked away with just under $29,000. The total prize pool came to about $107,000. $566,286 has been awarded in prize-pool money as of January 28, 2008.
The L.A Poker Classic continues until March 3, 2008, culminating with the WPT Invitational starting on March 1st.
