Poker Tournament World: European Poker Tour (EPT)

The European Poker Tour was created in response to the highly-popular, but also largely American-centric, World Poker Tour. The European Poker Tour - commonly referred to as the EPT - brings together some of the best talent in the world to compete in lucrative tournaments across Europe. While the EPT has not reached the scale of the WPT, (making the buy-ins and prize pools smaller) competitors are still walking away with winnings in the region of €100,000 - a worthwhile sum to many respected professionals.

Compared to many live poker events, the EPT is fairly new. It was created in 2004 and soon blossomed into a worldwide hit, boasting a successful television series that's helped solidify poker's reputation as a legitimate sport across Europe and the globe. The driving forces behind this event include John Duthie (CEO/Executive Producer, winner of the first Ladbrokes Poker Million and director/producer of acclaimed UK dramatic TV-series); Thomas Kremser (EPT Tournament Director, Tournament Director of "Late Night Poker"); Sunset & Vine (a sports program production company which produces more than 2,000 hours of television on a yearly basis).

The EPT brings 8 players to the final table. These finalists and runners up from the previous tournaments play against each other in the Grand Final for the title of European Poker Tour Champion, and a first prize around €650,000.

EPT events are held throughout the UK, France, Denmark, Spain, Ireland and Germany. The series final will be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco, a city reputed for its glamorous and rich gambling history.
