After a long streak of solid play throughout the tournament, Duncan ‘Pumper’ Bell from Vancouver, BC in Canada won first place at a World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas Monday, June 9, 2008.
Bell entered heads-up play virtually even in stack with his opponent Steven Merrifield. But, after a particularly drawn-out river, Bell found himself shaken and down 5-1 in chips.
Still, the 32-year-old poker professional managed to regain his composure, keep his wits about him and win $666,777 and a gold World Series of Poker tournament bracelet.
In a post tournament interview Bell shared his enthusiasm, saying, "It means a lot to me. Every poker players dream is to win a bracelet.”
Vancouver's Shawn Buchanan, a friend of Bell's, also made the final table in the tournament which started with 1390 players.
