Pair

Any two cards that have the same rank. See Poker Hand Rankings.

"A high Pair is a decent hand."

Palette

The tool (usually a long flat wooden baton) used in the Baccarat game to move cards on the table.

"Use the Palette to remove the cards from the table."

Pass

Not to bet, to fold.

"I'm going to have to Pass on this one."

Pass Line

In Craps, the line in front of the players for bets made that a point will be rolled before a seven.

"You've got to make it over the Pass Line."

Pat

In draw poker, a hand that does not need any more hands. In blackjack, an unbusted hand worth at least 17 points.

"If you have 18 cards, your hand is a Pat."

Pay Cycle

A theoretical expression that reflects the number of plays required for the machine to cycle through all possible winning and non-winning combinations.

"The Pay Cycle allows players to see all the possible combinations."

Payline

The line on a slot machine window on which the symbols from each reel must line up. Slot machines can have multiple pay lines.

"Check out the Payline to see if you've won anything."

Payoff

Your payback; the return you see on a wager.

"It's always nice to see a Payoff when you're at the casino."

Payout Table

A posting somewhere on the front of a slot or video poker machine, that tells you what each winning hand will pay for the number of coins or credits played.

"Payout Tables are used in online casinos and at Brick & Mortar casinos to see what you've won."

Pit Boss

The person who supervises all the games and casino personnel associated with a pit during a particular work shift. Pit bosses are in place to watch for cheating, settle disputes, and give comps to big bettors.

"You do not want to mess with the Pit Boss!!!"

Place Bet

In Craps, a bet made after a point is established, for play on the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 - or any combination of the numbers stated.

"It's time to make a Place Bet!"

Point

In Craps, the number that must be repeated before a seven is thrown in order for a pass line bet or come out bet to win.

"In Craps, you've got to get a Point before a seven is thrown in."

Pot

In a poker game, the amount of money that accumulates in the middle of the table as each player antes, bets, and raises.

"The Pot goes to the winner of the hand."

Pressing

A player is pressing the bet when they let winnings ride by wagering them along with the original bet.

"He was Pressing"

Progressive

A slot machine whose potential jackpot increases with each coin that is played. When the progressive jackpot finally hits, the amount resets to the starting number.

"When you're playing Progressive, you might win a great deal of money."

Push

A tie hand between a dealer and a player; no money changes hands. A push at blackjack occurs when both the player and the dealer have a unbusted hands with the same total points.

"You Push - it's a tie."
